Life is getting so rich and full these darkening days... planned to share this last month, but seems that when I have any spare time, I cant put down my knitting needles or sewing scissors... I committed this year to biking to work every day. I do not live that far from my school, but it is still a bit of a struggle to get up a little early, get my mitts and helmet on and get out there in the cold- especially since the mornings are now still a little dark when I leave. SO, how does this mama and teacher plan for this? Naturally with a homemade wardrobe. I am very happy with putting myself in comfortable and "uniform-like" clothes every day. I don't like to have to make big decisions about wardrobe and, most of all, I need to be able to bike in these clothes. I love wearing skirts, but never find exactly what I am looking for at a store: simple design, POCKET(S), comfy, short-but not too short (short enough to hop on my bike, long enough to teach high school students ;) So, modeled from a favorite skirt, I got a variety of stretchy cord-velvets, found some coordinating linens and other fun fabrics for pockets and got to work! I like to create in bulk when making functional garments for anyone in my family. So, eight skirts later... think I might still make one more!
they are all stretchy, comfy, and good! simple construction (2 seams up the sides, hemmed bottom, raw edge top), pockets and a few embellishments...
On warmer days, I can wear these without leggings or yoga pants underneath (though I wear bike shorts under them for riding.)

On cooler days, I wear leggings, and even leg-warmers over the leggings! Layers are good around my town where temps can flux 20 degrees (f) in a few hours...

These are so versatile, can be dressed up or down, worn with nice sweaters, hooded sweatshirts, dirty t-shirts or nice button down oxford shirts. Sandals, boots, tennis shoes and even crocs...
So these have become my uniform these days. I made a dress, also. Maybe I will share that someday soon... ;)
